Creative, yes. Semi-crafty, yes. Expert seamstress? Um…no. Not even close! But when I saw an apron skirt on sale at Pier One, I immediately knew that I wanted to make it into a dress. This would be a good time to explain that while I do have a sewing machine, it’s been used for about 10 hours total in the past year. Not really for lack of want, more for lack of time! I like using it and made a few baby blankets that my daughters still love and keep on their bed. But “real” sewing isn’t something I’ve dabbled in. In fact, I’m not sure I could rethread the bobbin if my life depended on it right now; luckily, I didn’t have to mess with it while sewing this dress![]()
Anyway, basically all I did was cut the apron strings off, sew the edges of them together, put buttons on the back of the dress and cut holes in the front of the dress where the knotted “straps” go around A’s neck, halter-style, tying at the back of her neck. See? I told you I wasn’t advanced!!
But what I lack in skill, I make up for in vision and perseverance, and what do you know – not only does the dress fit her, she loooves it. And bonus – it stays on her!! Amazing!
Admittedly, it does look a bit… homemade, at least from certain angles. But A adores it and I cannot wait to pair it with a jean jacket, some leggings or tights and perhaps some cowboy boots!
Here’s A, modeling her new dress. She felt so pretty and that, to me, is goal achieved!
